US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed on Tuesday that Iran is harassing and firing upon ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Hegseth stated in a press conference, which was covered by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Iran is harassing and firing upon ships in the Strait of Hormuz," adding that "international waters belong to the world, not to Iran, and Operation Freedom aims to protect commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz."

"We have reduced the risks in the Strait of Hormuz," he stressed, pointing out that "Operation Freedom, which we launched in the Strait of Hormuz, is temporary, and the world must intervene."

"Operation Freedom continues, and maritime trade will flow," Hegseth continued, noting that the Strait of Hormuz has been secured by helicopters and ships to ensure the safe passage of vessels.

"Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz, and the United States uses force to assist others," he added, emphasizing that "the United States does not seek war, but Iran cannot be allowed to prevent innocent nations from transiting an international waterway."
