Iraqi National Intelligence Service-INIS said on Monday it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of narcotics through Iraqi territory.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), INIS said a “special operation,” carried out in coordination with the Supreme Judicial Council and the head of the Karkh First Investigative Court, led to the disruption of an attempt to traffic a large quantity of drugs through Iraq to neighboring countries.
The statement said the operation was based on precise intelligence that helped identify members of a criminal network comprising Iraqis and foreigners, track their movements, and arrest them across several provinces in cooperation with the Zanyari agency and the General Directorate for Narcotics Control in Sulaymaniyah.
It added that the operation resulted in the seizure of more than one million captagon pills and 100 kilograms of hashish, as well as the arrest of all members of the network.
