Karkh Criminal Court: 6-year prison sentences for 4 convicted of promoting the banned Ba'ath Party

The Karkh Criminal Court issued a six-year prison sentence on Monday against four individuals convicted of promoting the banned Ba'ath Party.

The Supreme Judicial Council stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the Karkh Criminal Court sentenced four individuals to six years in prison for the crime of belonging to and promoting the ideology of the banned Ba'ath Party."

It added that "the convicts were found in possession of publications promoting the ideas of the banned Ba'ath Party on their mobile phones in Kirkuk Governorate during 2025 and 2026."

It pointed out that "the verdict against them was based on the provisions of Article 8/First of Law No. 32 of 2016, which prohibits the Ba'ath Party and racist, terrorist, and takfiri entities, parties, and activities, and in accordance with Articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Penal Code."
