A tanker was attacked by unidentified projectiles off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, a British maritime agency reported Monday, as the United States announced a plan to escort ships through the closed Strait of Hormuz.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said that an oil tanker reported being attacked by unidentified projectiles, adding that all crew members were safe.
It added that the incident occurred 78 nautical miles north of the UAE city of Fujairah.
UKMTO urged ships to exercise caution while transiting the area, while authorities conduct their investigations.
This report comes as peace negotiations between the United States and Iran remain stalled since the ceasefire went into effect on April 8.
US President Donald Trump unveiled a plan on Sunday called "Project Freedom" to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement on the X platform that its forces will begin supporting the plan starting Monday with guided-missile destroyers, more than 100 fighter jets, and 15,000 troops.
