German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius emphasized the shared interests between Germany and the United States after the latter announced a partial withdrawal of its forces from Germany.

Pistorius said, "The presence of American troops in Europe, and especially in Germany, is in our interest and the interest of the United States."

At the same time, Pistorius explained that "the decision was not a surprise, and that the withdrawal of US troops from Europe and from Germany was expected."

He continued: "We cooperate closely with the Americans in Ramstein, Grafenwöhr, Frankfurt, and elsewhere, for peace and security in Europe, for Ukraine, and to strengthen our collective deterrence."

He noted that "the United States also has other military functions at its bases in Germany, including those related to its security interests in Africa and the Middle East."

The minister emphasized that "it is essential for NATO to become more European in order to remain transatlantic."
