MP Ibtisam Al-Hilali, from the State of Law Coalition, confirmed on Saturday that the coordination framework and political blocs are holding continuous meetings to agree on the formation of the cabinet and the distribution of electoral entitlements according to the constitutionally specified period, while she indicated that the distribution of ministerial portfolios will be according to political weight and parliamentary representation.
Al-Hilali told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The coordination framework and the political blocs are holding continuous meetings in order to agree on the formation of the cabinet and the distribution of electoral entitlements according to the constitutionally specified period,” noting that “Article 76 of the Iraqi Constitution stipulates that the person tasked with forming the government is given a period of 30 days to present his cabinet formation and his government program to the House of Representatives.”
She added, "There is a strong commitment and determination from the heads of the political blocs to resolve the outstanding issues and form the next government in the coming period."
She pointed out that "the allocation of ministerial portfolios to political blocs will be based on their political weight and parliamentary representation," noting that "the number of points allocated to a sovereign ministry is equivalent to two or three service ministries."
