Iraqi Ambassador: Iraqi Constitution Prohibits Use of Iraqi Territory to Attack Other Countries

The Iraqi Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Qahtan Taha Khalaf, affirmed on Tuesday the Iraqi government's commitment to establishing strong relations with its Arab brethren, noting that the Iraqi Constitution prohibits the use of Iraqi territory to attack any other country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Cairo and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Qahtan Taha Khalaf, headed the Iraqi delegation at the extraordinary session of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, held via video conference, to discuss developments in the region."

"The meeting discussed the attacks against Arab countries and their repercussions."

According to the statement, the head of the Iraqi delegation, Qahtan Taha Khalaf, emphasized during his remarks "the Iraqi government's commitment to establishing strong relations with its Arab brethren, based on the Iraqi Constitution, which prohibits the use of Iraqi territory to attack any other country."

He explained that "the government is taking the necessary measures to prevent any such acts should they be proven," noting that "Iraq has been subjected to attacks from various parties to the conflict, and on occasion, civilian facilities and others belonging to the Iraqi army have been targeted."

He pointed out that "Iraq believes that the (Israeli) entity is a major cause of the chaos in the region," stressing "the need not to overlook its goals and expansionist policies."
