The death of Hussein Mohammed Hadi Al-Sadr was announced on Tuesday. He passed away at the age of 81.
Al-Sadr was born in Baghdad in 1945 into a distinguished scholarly family. The late figure was widely known for his cultural and political presence and was regarded as one of the prominent personalities who combined religious thought with cultural openness.
He played a significant role in the Iraqi opposition to the former Baath regime, notably through his participation in opposition conferences in exile. He also maintained an active presence on the political scene following the fall of the previous regime.
