Manchester United produced a comeback of the highest order on Sunday, twice coming from behind or absorbing pressure to beat league leaders Arsenal 3-2 in their own backyard.
In a match that swung from Arsenal dominance to United counter-attacking brilliance, it was the quality of the finishing from Patrick Dorgu and substitute Matheus Cunha that eventually separated the sides, sending United back into the Champions League places.
A Tale of Errors and Excellence
Arsenal began with the ferocity expected of title favourites, pinning United back from minute one. Senne Lammens, deputising in goal, was called into action early to deny a Martin Zubimendi header, but the Belgian could do nothing about the opener on the half-hour mark.
After a partially cleared ball fell to Martin Odegaard, the captain’s scuffed shot took a wicked deflection off Lisandro Martinez, wrong-footing Lammens to give the Gunners a deserved lead.
However, the momentum shifted on a moment of complacency from the hosts. Zubimendi’s loose back-pass played Bryan Mbeumo clean through. The forward, rounding his former Brentford teammate David Raya, showed ice-cold composure to slot into an empty net and level proceedings before the break.
The Dorgu Thunderbolt
If the first half was defined by grit, the second was defined by magic. Six minutes after the restart, Patrick Dorgu—continuing to shine in a wide midfield role—combined with Bruno Fernandes before unleashing a thunderous effort from distance that crashed in off the underside of the crossbar.
Mikel Arteta responded with a quadruple substitution, throwing on Mikel Merino, Ben White, Viktor Gyokeres, and Eberechi Eze. The pressure eventually told in the 84th minute when Lammens failed to deal with a Bukayo Saka corner, allowing Merino to bundle home an equaliser.
Cunha’s Instant Reply
But the celebrations in North London lasted less than sixty seconds.
Straight from the restart, United surged forward. The ball found Matheus Cunha outside the box, and the Brazilian bent a sumptuous, curling effort past Raya to restore the lead and send the travelling support into delirium.
It was United's first league win at the Emirates since 2017, handing Michael Carrick a massive statement victory as he continues to steady the ship.

Luke Shaw – 7/10 Tasked with marking Bukayo Saka, Shaw used his experience well, limiting the winger's influence for large periods.
Casemiro – 9/10 (Man of the Match) A masterful display from the veteran. While the forwards grabbed the headlines, Casemiro was everywhere—breaking up play, winning aerial duels, and calming the team when Arsenal’s press was at its highest. A vintage performance.
Kobbie Mainoo – 7/10 Worked tirelessly alongside Casemiro. Looked fatigued late in the second half, but his positional discipline was key to the game plan.
Amad Diallo – 6/10 Struggled to get into the game offensively as United spent long periods defending, but his work rate could not be faulted.
Bruno Fernandes – 6/10 Wasteful with two golden chances in the first half that he should have buried. However, he provided the assist for Dorgu and kept the team ticking over in transition.
Patrick Dorgu – 8/10 Quiet in the first 45, but exploded into life with a Goal of the Season contender. His transition from defence to midfield continues to look like a masterstroke.
Bryan Mbeumo – 8/10 A constant pest to Saliba and Gabriel. His anticipation for the equaliser was elite, and he took his goal with the confidence of a man in peak form.
Substitutes: Matheus Cunha – 8/10 The definition of an impact sub. One chance, one world-class finish to win the game.
