Al-Marsoumi: Iran and the U.S. May Negotiate in Military Uniforms — Gulf Oil Exports at Risk if Talks Fail

Iraq News 2025/06/12 13:26

Expert warns of “Gates of Hell” scenario amid Israeli threats and rising regional tensions

Economic expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi has warned of the grave consequences that could follow the failure of upcoming negotiations between Iran and the United States, noting that the talks might be conducted “in military uniforms” — a metaphor for looming military confrontation, especially in light of Israel’s threats to strike Iran.

In a statement posted on his social media, Al-Marsoumi remarked:

“If Iran and the U.S. reach an agreement, the world will live in peace. But if they clash, the gates of hell will open.”

He cautioned that key maritime trade routes could be shut down, and that oil export terminals might be destroyed, leading to a surge in transportation and insurance costs, negative impacts on global oil supply, and a sharp rise in oil prices.

According to Al-Marsoumi, Gulf oil-exporting countries would suffer significantly if export routes are restricted or completely shut down, with the greatest damage falling on countries that lack alternative export outlets — implicitly referencing Iraq.

He emphasized the urgent need to revive the Ceyhan pipeline project, linking Iraq to Turkey, stating it is now "more necessary than ever before" to ensure the security of Iraqi oil exports.

Al-Marsoumi concluded with a heartfelt warning:

“My eyes, my heart, and my mind are on Iraq.”
